KS3 & GCSE tuition in English, History, Psychology, Business & Religious Studies
12 years’ experience in building confidence and polishing exam technique.
Welcome to Little Bird
ABOUT LITTLE BIRD
Hi, I’m Amelia, the face behind Little Bird Tutoring. I’ve been helping students navigate school, exams and the occasional academic crisis for 12 years (yes I feel old).
I’ve been working with students across KS3 and GCSE in English Language and Literature, History, Psychology, Business and Religious Studies. Academically, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Law, as well as Master’s degrees in both Law and Psychology – which means I’ve spent an arguably unreasonable amount of my life reading, writing essays and figuring out how people think.
That combination shapes the way I teach. Or that’s what I say because “I spend an hour making awful jokes and yelling about Shakespeare” is a harder sell.
APPROACH
I like lessons to be as student-led as possible. I don’t want to spend an hour talking at someone – I want to know what’s confusing, what’s clicking, and where things have gone a bit fuzzy. Then we work from there.
My lessons are structured without being rigid, focused without being intimidating, and usually involve a fair amount of humour. Nine years of stand-up has taught me how to read a room – and, crucially, how to recognise when something is absolutely not landing.
Occasional assistance is provided by Ruby, Head of Pupil Morale. Her role is largely supervisory.
Our Services
English is a subject where students can be asked to analyse three words for ten minutes, explain what the weather symbolises and somehow remember seventeen quotations about Macbeth.
Whether the difficulty is Shakespeare, unseen poetry, creative writing or the mysterious art of “zooming in on a quotation”, lessons are shaped around the student and what they actually need. We’ll break intimidating questions into manageable steps, strengthen analytical and creative writing, practise exam technique and build answers that say what the student means—and collect the marks along the way.
For KS3 and GCSE students who would like to feel more confident, more capable and considerably less baffled by English.

Psychology is the study of why people think, feel and behave the way they do. It is also a subject in which the answer to a perfectly sensible question is very often, “Well…it depends.”
These supportive one-to-one lessons are shaped around the student, their course and whichever theory, study or research method is currently refusing to make sense. We can unpack tricky concepts, strengthen evaluation skills, practise exam questions and turn “I know what I mean” into clear, precise answers that actually earn marks.
For GCSE Psychology students who want to understand the mind, question the evidence—and remember which researcher did what to whom.

History is fascinating. It is also, occasionally, an alarming number of dates, treaties and people named Henry.
These supportive one-to-one lessons are shaped around the student, their course and whichever bit is currently making their brain hurt. We can untangle tricky content, improve source and interpretation skills, practise exam questions and turn half-formed ideas into confident, well-supported arguments.
For KS3 and GCSE students who want to understand what happened, why it mattered—and how on earth to get the marks.

Business Studies is what happens when common sense puts on a suit and develops an alarming number of acronyms.
Whether the difficulty is cash-flow forecasts, market segmentation or explaining why a fictional bakery should change its pricing strategy, lessons are shaped around the student and their course. We’ll make the terminology manageable, tackle calculations, practise applying knowledge to case studies and build well-developed answers that include the analysis and evaluation examiners are looking for.
For GCSE Business students who want to understand how businesses work—and how to turn that understanding into marks.

Starting with a new tutor can feel like quite a big decision, so this is a small, low-pressure way to see whether Little Bird Tutoring feels like the right fit.
Choose between:
A 30-minute taster lesson
A proper mini-lesson where the student can meet me, experience my teaching style and work through a topic or skill they’d like help with. It gives us a chance to identify what’s already going well, what needs support and whether we work comfortably together.
A consultation call
A relaxed conversation for a parent or guardian who would prefer to talk first. We can discuss the student, their current challenges, what they’re hoping to achieve and any questions you have about lessons.
No elaborate academic masterplan is required. Just choose the option that feels most useful, tell me a little about what’s going on, and we’ll take it from there.
Religious Studies tackles some of the biggest questions human beings have ever asked: Why are we here? What makes something right or wrong? Is peace always possible? It also expects students to answer them under timed conditions while remembering who said what and why it matters.
These supportive one-to-one lessons are shaped around the student, their course and whichever belief, practice or ethical issue currently feels tangled. We can clarify religious teachings, compare different perspectives, strengthen evaluation skills and turn interesting ideas into focused, well-supported exam answers.
For KS3 and GCSE students who want to think deeply, write clearly—and make the quotations stay in their heads until at least the end of the exam.

Looking for Maths or Science?
They may not have their own shiny boxes above, but I can often help with those too. Support is available on request and depends on the student’s year group, level and the topics involved. Send me a quick message with what they’re studying—and which bit of algebra, atoms or photosynthesis is currently causing trouble—and I’ll let you know how I can help.
Still have questions?
Choosing a tutor is a little more involved than adding one to your basket and hoping for the best. I offer a free, no-pressure consultation call so we can chat about what your child needs and whether I’m the right fit.
Alternatively, they can try their first lesson at half price—because sometimes the best way to see whether tuition works is simply to give it a go. No dramatic commitment ceremony required.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
I work mainly with KS3 and GCSE students, supporting pupils from Year 7 through to Year 11. Lessons are adapted to the individual student rather than delivered to an imaginary “average learner” who almost certainly does not exist.
-
I offer tuition in English Language and Literature, History, Religious Studies, Psychology and Business Studies.
-
Yes. All Little Bird Tutoring lessons currently take place online. Students can learn from home, share work and resources on screen, and avoid spending twenty minutes searching for the exercise book they definitely had yesterday.
-
Yes. Lessons are one-to-one, so the pace, content and teaching style can be shaped around the individual student. There is no need to keep up with a group or pretend something makes sense when it absolutely does not.
Or, at least, one-to-one if you’re happy to ignore my cat. I’ve been teaching her for years, and her Shakespeare remains poor.
-
Tuition starts from £25 per hour. Shorter and longer sessions are priced proportionately:
30 minutes — £12.50
45 minutes — £18.75
60 minutes — £25
90 minutes — £37.50
120 minutes — £50
The most suitable lesson length will depend on the student’s age, concentration and what they’re working towards.
-
Yes. You can choose either a 30-minute taster lesson for the student or a consultation call for a parent or guardian.
The taster lesson gives the student a chance to meet me and experience how I teach. The consultation call gives us an opportunity to discuss their needs, ask questions and decide whether Little Bird Tutoring feels like the right fit.
-
Absolutely not. One lesson is fine. Three lessons are fine. A focused burst of help before an assessment is also completely fine.
Some students benefit from regular tuition, while others simply need help revising a particular topic, planning an essay or working out why the mark scheme appears to have been written in code. Short-term and assessment-focused support can be booked directly through the shop.
There is no minimum commitment and no assumption that booking one lesson means surrendering every Tuesday evening until university.
-
Lessons are planned around the student’s actual exam board and specification, rather than a vague GCSE-shaped cloud. You can provide the exam board when booking; if you’re unsure which one the school uses, that’s completely fine—we can work it out.
-
Very possibly. Many of the students I work with begin tuition feeling nervous, discouraged or convinced they are simply “bad” at a subject.
Lessons are calm, supportive and paced around the student. They will never be made to feel silly for asking a question, needing something explained again or taking time to think.
-
Absolutely. GCSEs do not always go to plan the first time, and a result received at sixteen is not a lifelong prophecy carved into stone.
I work with older students who are resitting a subject, whether they are now at college, studying independently or returning to education after some time away. We’ll work out what happened previously—missing knowledge, exam technique, timing, confidence or the deeply inconvenient experience of one’s entire brain leaving the building when the paper opens—and focus on what will make the next attempt different.
Lessons are practical, supportive and completely judgement-free. Please get in touch with the subject, exam board, previous result and intended exam date so I can make sure I’m the right tutor for the resit.
-
Yes. I hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate and have 12 years’ tutoring experience.
-
They’ll need a reliable internet connection, a device with a microphone, somewhere reasonably quiet to work and any relevant school materials they’d like us to use.
I’ll provide or share additional lesson resources where needed.
-
Possibly. Ruby is Head of Pupil Morale and occasionally makes an appearance in a supervisory capacity. Her contribution is generally limited to moral support, quality control and sitting somewhere inconvenient.
What happens next?
1- Book a free consultation call or ½ price taster lesson
Meet me, ask questions and establish three important facts: I know my subjects, the student can tolerate my company, and Little Bird Tutoring is not an elaborate ploy to recruit new members into a cat cult.
2- If we vibe, book your first full lesson.
Choose the subject and lesson length, then tell me a little about what the student is working on and where things have become muddled. A brief explanation is plenty; no twenty-page educational dossier is required.
3- We do some actual learning.
We’ll tackle something useful from the very first lesson while I get a better sense of how the student thinks, works and learns best. There are no surprise tests and no requirement to pretend everything is “fine” when it plainly is not.
4- I send you the useful bits.
After the lesson, I’ll send a short summary explaining what we covered, what the student learned, what went well and what could use another look. This saves parents from asking, “How was tutoring?” and receiving an answer in the ancient language of teenagers everywhere: ‘Yeah, fine.’”
5- We ride off into the academic sunset
If everyone is happy, we book the next lesson and carry on from there—building skills, confidence and a growing collection of dreadful subject-related jokes. We’ll adjust things as we go, because students change, school gets weird and surprise mock exams have a habit of appearing from nowhere.
